Minister Says Stronger Action Needed to Address ‘Shameful’ Rise of Islamophobia

A British minister has slammed the rising trend of Islamophobia in the country as “appalling and shameful,” calling for increased action.

According to rahyafteha(the missionaries and converts website):Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper has condemned the rise in Islamophobia following a report by Tell MAMA, an organization that measures anti-Muslim incidents, which showed a significant uptick in hate crimes targeting Muslims.

“Stronger action is needed against hate crime, threats & abuse. Islamophobia must have no place in the UK,” she said in a post on X on Friday.

Tell MAMA said it had logged 2,010 incidents between October 7, 2023, and February 7, 2024. That was more than three times the 600 incidents recorded in the same period a year earlier.

The group said it was “deeply concerned” about the effect of the conflict on hate crimes and social cohesion in the UK.

It urged political leaders to condemn anti-Muslim hate and to promote tolerance and respect.

Of the 2,010 incidents, 901 were offline and 1,109 were online. London had the highest number of offline incidents, which ranged from verbal abuse and threats to physical assaults and vandalism. Women were the main victims, accounting for 65 percent of cases, the group said.

There has been a tangible rise in anti-Muslim hate across the world since the start of the Israeli war on Gaza.

The Israeli regime has launched a deadly military campaign against the besieged Gaza Strip since October 7 after Palestinian resistance forces carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Flood in response to rising Israeli violence against Palestinians. More than 29,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the besieged Gaza Strip as most of the 2.4 population have been internally displaced.
