‘People Surprised after Learning What Islamic Faith Thought’

A mosque in Teesside, UK, opened its doors for people and answered their questions.

According to Rahyafte (the missionaries and converts website):Central Masjid, on Southfield Road in Middlesbrough, hosted a day of tours, Q&A sessions with snacks and refreshments for the public to enjoy. Teessiders were able to experience what happens inside their local mosque as part of the local initiative ‘Discover Middlesbrough’.

People of all ages, gender and religion stepped inside to learn something new and find answers to questions they had been wanting to know about the Islamic community.

Throughout the busy and exciting day, members of the mosque were asked lots of questions ranging from their beliefs to their clothing. Members of the public visited the Middlesbrough mosque on Monday, October 31.

The top five questions asked by Teessiders were:

  • What do Muslims actually believe?
  • Do Muslims believe in Jesus?
  • Why do women wear the head covering?
  • Can you prove the existence of God?
  • Why is there so much suffering in the world?

Gohar Ihsan, Chairman of Central Masjid said: “Everyone really enjoyed the opportunity to visit a mosque and see what happens inside and many people were surprised to hear what the Islamic faith taught. It was a very productive day with a lot of conversations over a cup of tea. We will definitely be holding more events in the near future.

“These mosque open days are crucial in nurturing good relations in the community, and we hope by being approachable and welcoming, we will facilitate developing interfaith and intercultural understanding and harmony in the community.”
