OIC Hosts Int’l Conference in Jeddah: ‘Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment’

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is set to host a three-day international conference in Jeddah titled “Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment” commencing on Monday.

According to rahyafte (the missionaries and converts website):This event is dedicated to commemorating the remarkable achievements of Muslim women throughout history and fostering a deeper understanding of their contributions.

The central objectives of the conference encompass highlighting the substantial roles played by women in the development of OIC member states, countering misconceptions and negative narratives that often depict the Islamic religion as an impediment to women’s rights, and showcasing that Islamic teachings have consistently upheld principles of justice and equity for women, Saudi media outlets reported.

In addition, the conference endeavors to chart a comprehensive plan for legal and political reforms aimed at enhancing justice and empowerment for women within Islamic societies. At the core of these deliberations is the expected adoption of a comprehensive document known which will outline key initiatives and strategies designed to advance these crucial goals.

The conference agenda comprises five distinct working sessions, each providing a platform for ministers, officials, scholars, and thought leaders to examine the status and rights of women in Islam.

They will collectively assess the potential avenues for empowering Muslim women in the realms of education and employment. Furthermore, these sessions will delve into various issues related to women in contemporary societies, reflecting the conference’s commitment to addressing pressing concerns.
