Eid al-Fitr; Beginning of New Spiritual Year

Eid al-Fitr means returning to ones Fitrat (nature) and it actually marks the beginning of the new spiritual year.

According to Rahyafte(the missionaries and converts website):We should be careful to safeguard the achievements of the holy month of Ramadan in this spiritual year.

There are three Eids (religious festivals) in Islam that have been referred to as Eid by the Holy Prophet (PBUH): Eid al-Adha, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Ghadir, whose importance has been emphasized in the Hadiths of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) and has been called Eid Allah Al-Akbar (Great Eid of God).

Eid has various aspects, one of which is being happy and celebrating because it is a blessed day at the end of Ramadan when Muslims have been elevated spiritually and their Fitrat has been purified. The root of the word Eid means returning and when Eid happens one returns to his Fitrat.

We should not feel that the month of Ramadan is over and we should bid farewell to it until next year. We have actually entered Ramadan and collected (spiritual) provisions for the year ahead.

Among the men of God, every year begins with the Night of Qadr. Actually, we are at the beginning of the new spiritual year and we should carefully safeguard what we have achieved in Ramadan.

If one wants to know whether he has achieved anything spiritual in Ramadan, he should ask himself whether he hate sins more than he did at the beginning of Ramadan or whether his soul has become more purified.

Or for those who have no sins, they can ask themselves whether the Salah they perform at the end of Ramadan is the same as the one at the beginning of the one or has improved in terms of spirituality, presence of heart, etc.

If there has been an improvement in spiritual aspects, it would mean one has achieved something in Ramadan. Otherwise, he has only experienced hunger, thirst and lack of sleep, as Imam Ali (AS) put it.

Those who properly used the holy month of Ramadan and made spiritual achievements should appreciate and safeguard these achievements by being close to the Quran, interacting with righteous people, and frequenting places in which there is spirituality.
