Salvation in Hereafter Better than Happiness in This World

God (in the Quran) has pointed to numerous blessings in this world but underscored that these are transient and ephemeral and that they should be used for reaching everlasting happiness.

According to rahyafte (the missionaries and converts website):

God says in Verse 14 and 15 of Surah Al-Imran: “Worldly desires, wives, children, accumulated treasures of gold and silver, horses of noble breed, cattle, and farms are all made to seem attractive to men. All these are the bounties of the worldly life but in the life to come God has the best place for people to dwell. (Muhammad), ask them, ‘Shall I tell you what is far superior to worldly pleasures? Those who have fear of God will have (as their reward) gardens wherein streams flow and wherein they will live forever with their purified spouses and with the consent of God. God knows all about His servants.’”

In these two verses, God has enumerated different bounties and blessings provided for mankind, including spouses, children, wealth, properties, etc but stressed at the end that these are the enjoyments of the worldly life but they are ephemeral and not lasting unless they are used for the purpose of moving toward perfection and salvation.

That the verse first mentions wives as blessings shows that there is no blessing in this world that is superior to the love between man and woman and that other blessings are at the service of this love and bond.

A wise person is one who differentiates not only between good and bad but also between good and better and between bad and worse. He chooses good among good and bad, and chooses better among good and better.

Surprisingly, some people who try to select the best and buy things with the least price but do not care about what they spend their lifetime on.

They pay no attention to how short life is, how precious it is and how important it is to spend it the best way possible.

What a good poem it is to write on people’s tombstones, the poem by that English-speaking poet (Solomon Grundy): “He was born on Monday, christened on Tuesday, and married on Wednesday. On Thursday, he fell sick, and the illness got worse on Friday, and he died on Saturday. His body was buried on Sunday.”
