The story of Creation is located in the first Book of the Old Testament, i.e. in the early chapters of Genesis. The Old Testament narrative is almost like a storybook; hence it starts off with the story of Creation as the beginning of the story of the mankind.
However this story is located in various places within the Quran which gives a different presentation to its idea and message.
For example, according to the Old Testament, God just informed the angels of creating Adam, (Genesis 1:26) while in the Quran, God Almighty informed them and further, there are some conversations between God and His angels regarding the creation of Adam in which God EXPLAINED and PROVED them that why Adam was superior to them and other creatures, (Quran 2: 30-33).
Or about Adam & Eve who committed a misdeed in the heaven, the Old Testament informs us that firstly Eve was deceived by Satan and then she misled her husband, so that God punished Satan and Eve because of the sin, and Adam because of listening to his wife!(Genesis 3:6-17). Whereas God called and blamed BOTH Adam & Eve for the sin in Quran, because Satan had deceived both of them(Quran 7:20-22). No where in Quran, it’s said that Eve was the main responsible for the sin.
But the most important difference between the Old Testament and the Quran regarding the creation story is about repentance of Adam & Eve and forgiveness of God. when God said to His angels that He wants to create a vicegerent on the earth(Quran 2: 30), this status did not change after their misdeed, because they repented and so God forgave them (Qur’an, 2:37). Even it is said in Quran that God honored them on the earth and provided them more blessings than the heaven they were first in.(Quran 17:70). Contrary to Quran, there is NO sign of repentance of Adam & Eve and forgiveness of God in the Old Testament! And sending them to the earth was the punishment of their sin ( Genesis 3:17-24).
Man is not “fallen” from the Quranic perspective and hence there is no need to “save” or ransom him. In the Christian view however, Adam & Eve’s misdeed is the basis for the doctrine of Original Sin, the beginning of mankind’s fall into a state of sin and the salvation drama from the sin which had happened in the past.
