My Family Didn’t Speak to Me for Three Months After I Became a Muslim

So I started fasting. My prayer that time was “If something good happen to me, I will convert”.

According to rahyafte (the missionaries and converts website):

Noor Moved to Dubai from the Philippine When things went wrong for her and her business. When she accepted Islam, her family didn’t speak to her for three months because they were strong Catholic.

In every second of this interview, this verse of the holy Qur’an comes to mind that everybody who emigrates in the way of Allah will find in the earth enough room for refuge…. (Holy Qur’an-Surah An-Nisa)

First of all please tell us about yourself, what is your name?

My name is Noor, My passport name is Noora, but I changed it to Noor. But it is the same name, it has the same meaning.

When did you convert to Islam?

I am 44 years old, I’ve been converted to Islam for about three years, since 2012.

What is your family’s religion? Did you raise in Catholic?

My family was really very Catholic, strong in Catholic since we are young.Every Sunday we were very active in Catholic, you know Catholic.I was always in the choir. My parents, my father, and the whole family.

And yet I still looking for something, it’s still missing.

How was your life before converting?

Before I had a good life, like I thought, that it was a good life when I was before. I had a, you know, family, good family at the first. But end up I found nothing.

I lost everything, my family, we had problem with my husband .My business was going down, and I left nothing in 2010.But this is the reason why I came to Dubai.

How did you get familiar with Islam?

Before leaving [the Philippine], we had free departure. We had three days free departure about the Islam world. And it’s really struck in my heart ,about whenever I heard the words of the name of Allah, my hair really standing, it’s really in my heart.

What happened after that?

After one month, the Ramadan came, so we went to Tunisia, my employer brought me to Tunisia. So the Ramadan started, so the first day, I ask my employer “can I fast also because they are all fasting”.

And so my employer said “No you cannot fast, you are not a Muslim, all these, you know?”

Then I said “why I cannot! If you can do it, why I cannot?!”

Then the whole family, the parents said “Why do you stop her to fast if she wants?”

The second day she said “Okay if you want then you go”.

So I started fasting. My prayer that time was “If something good happen to me, I will convert”.

Did something good happen?

But after we got back from Tunisia, back to Dubai, my father died.I feel like, “Oh, this is not good, because my prayer is, you know, is to be a good, something good happen then I will convert.”

How did you come up with that?

One friend that’s of mine, he’s talking about Islam.

So I said ” I went for fasting and I thought it would be good, you know that this my prayer, but my father.

But he told me that no, even if you didn’t go for fast ,this is the reality of life”.

Did you convert after that?

So after that I went straight here.So converted, I didn’t have any question, I just want to, I want to convert, and I want to learn more about.

How do you feel after converting to Islam?

And after that really

Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah [Thanks God]

I really found peace here.

Why do you think that you found peace after converting?

Because I really, in my situation I through a lot of things, but now Alhamdulillah [Thanks God], I feel very, very good in Islam.

What was your biggest concern before converting?

At first my biggest concern was of course the family.

Did you have any problem with your family members when you accepted Islam?

My uncle doesn’t, he was unfriend me to the FB [Face Book], because he’s a pastor. And every time I post about Islam, he always makes a comment.

Then I said, even my brother was so.

But I told them that vary the name, but we’re honoring the same God.My family never talked to me for three months after knowing that I became a Muslim. But I kept on praying but Alhamdulillah (Thanks God) that they’ll accept me for who I am now.

What would you say to someone who believes in Islam, but is yet to embrace it?

Don’t think about your family, don’t think about your husband, that they don’t accept Islam because no one can save you, it’s only for yourself.

DUA: Allah please accept this from us. You are All-Hearing and All-Knowing. You are The Most Forgiving. You are The Most Relenting and repeatedly Merciful. Allah grant us The Taufiq to read all the 5 prayers with sincerity.
