Suleiman; A Prophet and A King Who Had Special Powers

After the death of his father Davoud (AS), Suleiman (Solomon) became both the prophet and king of Bani Isra’il.

According to Rahyafte(the missionaries and converts website)He asked God to give him unprecedented powers. God accepted Suleiman’s (AS) request and made him the ruler of not only humans but also winds, jinn and satans.

Suleiman (AS) was the son of Davoud (AS) and a descendant of Yahuda (Judah), the son of Yaqub (AS). He is described as a person who had a white face and a large hairy body. He replaced Davoud after his death. According to historical sources, he was between 13 and 22 years of age at the time.

Suleiman is among historical figures who became both a prophet and a king. He asked God to give him a kingdom that will not be given to anyone after him. God accepted his request and gave Suleiman powers not granted to anyone before or since, enabling him to have control over winds, birds, jinn and satans. Also, the lands of Bani Isra’il developed under his rule.

According to the verses of the Quran, Prophet Suleiman (AS) had special powers. For example, he was given control of copper mines, knew the language of animals and had control over not only humans but also jinn and satans. During his reign, many buildings, such as Suleiman’s Temple, were built. According to Hadiths, they were built by jinn.

There are many stories narrated about Prophet Suleiman (AS), including the power embedded in his ring, his speaking with ants and Hud Hud (hoopoe), his flying carpet, and the story of Suleiman and the Queen of Saba (Sheba).

Suleiman (AS) ordered the writings of sorcerers and magicians to be collected and kept in a special place. After his death, some people took away the writings and started teaching them.

Suleiman (AS) ruled Bani Isra’il for 40 years. He died while he was leaning upon his staff. No one knew he had died as he remained standing, propped up by it. Then a termite gnawed at it, until, finally, it gave way – and only then did his body collapse and they realized he had passed away.

The Quran mentions the name of Suleiman (AS) 17 times, including in Surahs Al-Baqarah, An-Nisa, Al-An’am, Al-Anbiya, An-Naml, Saba and Saad.

In Jewish sacred books the name Suleiman (Solomon) is also mentioned a lot. Solomon is credited with writing Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Songs in the Old Testament.

According to the Old Testament, Suleiman (AS) became an idolater at the end of his life but the Holy Quran emphasizes that he was a believer in God until the last moment and never became a polytheist.

After Suleiman’s death, the lands that were under his rule were divided and a land named Yahuda, which included the city of Jerusalem) remained.
