Mourning Rituals at Imam Reza Shrine Mark Demise Anniversary of Hazrat Khadija (SA)

All courtyards and porticos of the holy mausoleum of Imam Reza (AS) in Mashhad, northeast Iran, have turned into black, hosting mourners of Hazrat Khadija (SA) demise anniversary from Iran and many other countries.

According to Rahyafte(the missionaries and converts website) Flocks of mournful fasting pilgrims of the holy shrine have come to the complex in black cloths adding to the sense of sadness of the mourning ceremonies.

A special mourning program was be held for all Iranian and foreign visitors and pilgrims with speeches and elegy recitations by salient lecturers and panegyrists at Imam Khomeini portico of the complex.

Also, special mourning programs of the day of departure started with a speech by national university and seminary scholars on Tuesday morning and continued with elegy recitations of famous Iranian panegyrists.

The Office for Foreign Pilgrims’ Affairs of Imam Reza holy shrine will have separate mourning ceremonies for non-Iranian pilgrims in different languages of Azeri, Arabic, and Urdu at Dar al-Marhamah, Dar al-Rahmah, and Kowsar porticos.

Hazrat Khadija (SA) was the first wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH); she was also one of the first followers of the Prophet of Islam. Khadija (SA) was an exemplary woman of great nobility and ability, insight, courage and perseverance. She was a successful businesswoman in her own right. Khadija (SA) is mother of Hazrat Zahra (SA) and she is often referred to by Muslims as ‘Mother of the Believers’.
