Quranic References to Spring as Reminder of Akhirah

The Holy Quran has referred to the resurrection of the earth after the winter to remind humankind of Akhirah and how they will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment.

According to Rahyafte(the missionaries and converts website) Many cultures and religions across the globe have special rituals concerning the spring. Easter and Nowruz are the two important rituals in which one can see a deep look into nature and the resurrection of humans. The rebirth of nature is also reflected in many verses of the Quran.

Spring is full of divine, moral, human, and monotheistic characteristics, and as well bears beauty, the rebirth of nature, and the blowing of the soul into the earth. The glory of spring has led to recommendations on relieving anxieties by going to nature and witnessing divine manifestations there.

Due to its beauty and profound changes that happen in this season, spring has been mentioned in several Quranic verses. Also, this word has been used in many narrations that seek to introduce an educational concept. Describing the Quran, Imam Ali (AS) said: The Holy Quran is the spring of the hearts as it can introduce change in our soul like the change that spring causes in nature.

It is also said that “winter is the spring of the believer” because winter is a good opportunity for fasting (because of its short days) and getting acquainted with the Quran and praying (because of its long nights). The month of Ramadan has also been called the spring of the Quran because people pay more attention to the Holy Book and it is the month when the Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

The Quran guides man from darkness towards light and its ultimate goal is to bring about change in man. When the Quran says “Know that God brings the dead earth back to life. We have explained Our revelations to you so that you may perhaps have understanding” [57:17], it considers this natural transformation as a sign to reflect on not just to witness the beauties of spring. In another verse, the Quran says: “It is God who sends the winds to raise the clouds. We then drive them unto barren areas and revive the dead earth. (The Resurrection) will also be executed in the same way” [35:9]; it notes that the winds and rebirth of nature is a reason for reminding Akhirah.
