South African bowler Wayne Parnell converts to Islam

Wayne Parnell, the South Africa left-arm seamer, has announced that he has converted to Islam. He has also changed his named to Waleed, meaning ‘Newborn Son’ after his conversion to Islam.

According to rahyafte (the missionaries and converts website): Wayne Parnell, the South Africa left-arm seamer, has announced that he has converted to Islam.

“I converted to Islam in January 2011, after a period of personal study and reflection and it is a faith that I have always been interested in,” Parnell said.

He has also changed his named to Waleed, meaning ‘Newborn Son after his conversion to Islam.

Parnell confirmed that his teammates Hashim Amla and Imran Tahir, along with team manager Mohammad Moosajee, had no influence over his decision to convert to Islam.

Parnell’s fellow players, reportedly said they believed that he is very serious about the conversion and had not ‘touched a drop of alcohol’ ever since he converted to Islam.

South Africa pacer Wayne Parnell, who last played for the national team in July 2015, has tied the knot with fashion blogger Aisha Baker at the Zeenatul Islam Mosque in District Six, Cape Town.
