An ex-Christian brother from Italy converted to Islam.
On Thursday afternoon, Carmelo, an Italian, took his Shahada in the Holy Shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and converted to Islam.
When asked about why he decided to become a Muslim he said:
” I was a Christian and I didn’t know anything about Islam. Sometimes I would hear the Azan at my workplace and it relaxed me, but I never thought of becoming a Muslim.
Then I happened to meet an Iranian student and I fell in love with her and I decided to marry her. However, when I realized that in order to marry her I needed to become a Muslim, I started getting doubts about my intentions of marriage.
But an accident changed everything. I had a stroke due to an accident and was hospitalized. I was in coma when she came to the hospital and was reciting Quran by my bed during that time. I remember during the coma, I had a dreamlike experience in which I could hear her Quran recitation and it gave me relaxation. After a week, my health became better. The doctors told her that it was a miracle! When I was hospitalized the doctors doubted if I’d ever see another day. As I checked out, a doctor had approached her and said, “I don’t know what you’ve done, but whatever it is, it has to do with the book you were reciting over his head, because from medical point of view, he wouldn’t make it!”
The real cause of my conversion was this event and it hinted me to both becoming a Muslim and marrying her!”
Carmelo chose “Reza” as his new Muslim name after Imam Reza (AS) and said he feels peaceful and calm in the shrine of Imam Reza (AS) and that he loves the architecture because it is clear that it was built with love and devotion.
Finally, when he was asked to say a sentence for those who are interested to become Muslim, he said, “Listen to your heart”. A few seconds later he said “Well, for me something miraculous happened, and I don’t know about others (that could lead them to Islam).”
