How my appearance made my friend curious about Islam

As much as I was explaining to her, she was asking more questions about the hijab: why is it necessary for Muslim women to wear the hijab? What is the Status of Women in Islam?

It was three years ago when we had to say goodbye forever to each other and I returned to Iran. Not only I have separated from her but also I had to say goodbye forever to those good days that I had spent in India when I was a student. Those days were full of amazing and memorable experiences. After returning to Iran, I called and talked to her sometimes; but one day when I sent her a message, no answer was received for one year; so I was very concerned and phoned Yasmin to know what happened, but she didn’t have information either. Until one morning I suddenly saw her message.

Oh my God! Message of Namrata .
She had sent me massage to inform that she had become a mother.
Her message reminded me the first days of our friendship, those memorable days in India when I was studying. Yasmin was a Muslim and Namrata was a new Christian who had Converted to Christianity from Hinduism. They were the best of my classmates. Yasmin was not only a kind person but also she was the first_class student while Namrata was playful but she was intelligent and very interested to know about Islamic culture. Although she somewhat knew about the Muslim’s culture who are living in India, she also was interested to know about the Iranian Muslim’s culture, so we became close friends. On the first days of our friendship, she asked me with surprise: why do you wear the hijab? Do you wear it at home as well? She asked me many questions about my religion; So I invited her to my home to introduce her to my Iranian roommates (Sara and Fatemeh). I was waiting for her, it was almost around noon when she reached my home. when she saw us without hijab with different and beautiful dresses, She was surprised and said: Oh my God! I was thinking you people always wear black hijab even at home.
Therefore I showed her my closet and explained the difference between our indoor and outdoor clothes, when we are with our intimate ones and when we are with strangers.

As much as I was explaining to her, she was asking more questions about the hijab: why is it necessary for Muslim women to wear the hijab? What is the Status of Women in Islam?
Islam has introduced hijab as part of the decency and modesty for every woman and suitable interaction between members of the opposite sex.
I told her about the history of the pre-Islamic period. At that time of Arab’s ignorance and how they murdered their newborn girl by burying alive; But in the early history of Islam, Allah by sending many verses to his messenger Prophet Mohammed (PBUH&HP), ordered him to fight and stop such inhuman actions and said: »And when the girl [who was] buried alive is asked “For what sin she was killed” Surah At-Takwir, verse 8-9.
In this verse, Allah clearly warns those who buried their daughters alive are held accountable on Judgment Day.
And other verse, Allah says: “do not kill your children out of poverty; We will provide for you and them” Holy Quran, Surah Al-An’am, verse 151.
These messages of Holy Quran were interesting to Namrata because of similarity that she found between some parts of Hindu culture and the time of the Arab’s ignorance.
For example; in the religion of Hinduism culture, girls at the time of marriage should pay money to the groom, this money is named dowry. Sometimes the amount of dowry is above hundred million. So many girls attempt suicide because of poverty and low financial income of the family and do not get a chance of marriage. And few greedy boys marry with rich girls only for her dowry, in this situation only three possibilities can be imaged: girl attempts suicide to be free; boy murders the girl or girl should be a real slave and be silent and live as a ghost in husband’s home so the boy could marry the girl whom he loves.
In Hindu culture, many families, prefer a son to daughter. Therefore, statistics show a high rate of abortions in India. so to stop the abortion of girls, the Indian government has prohibited prenatal sex determination.
For Namrata who grew up in such society, was very interested to hear more about Islam. I explained about the time Arabs treated women badly, the kind prophet Mohammed (PBUH&HP) said: ” Mercy of Allah be upon the father of daughters. Daughters are blessed and beloved and sons bring glad tidings. Daughters are the good deeds”
She spent all night with us and in the morning when we planned to go picnic, at the time we were going out, she suddenly asked me to let her try one of my hijab dress.
